Paton-Churdan High School honored members of the class of 2014 at a mentor/awards banquet May 19 at the Loren Shriver Community Center in Paton.
Each senior invited and recognized someone who had a positive influence on him or her. The seniors introduced their mentors and read essays about that person’s role in his life.
Bobby Bauer (left) honored his brother Tyler Bemisdarfer as his mentor.
Taylor Gillespie (right)honored as her mentor her mother Melissa Gillespie.
Rene Guzman (left) honored high school teacher and coach Dean Lansman as his mentor.
Jessica Montoya (right) honored her grandmother Sharon McQuiellen as her mentor.
Awards and local scholarships totaling $6,700 were presented during the evening.
Taylor Carroll (left) chose as her mentor teacher Mrs Pat Sims. Carroll received scholarships from the Churdan American Legion auxiliary and the Masonic lodge, as well as the Higgins/Hoyle Memorial Scholarship.
Cullin Flinn named his grandfather Mark Kersey (right) as his mentor. Flinn received scholarships from the First Baptist Church and the Churdan Lions Club.
Chance Paup (left) selected Doug Tourte as his mentor. Paup received scholarships from the First Baptist Church, the Masonic lodge and the Churdan Lions Club.
Madison Stauffer (right) honored her mother Jenny Vote. Stauffer received the Lyle Graue Scholarship and scholarships from the Churdan American Legion auxiliary, the Masonic lodge and the Churdan Lions Club.
Emma Tilley named her mother Melinda Tilley (left) as her mentor. Tilley received the Bernie Saggau Award, the Paton-Churdan Music Parents award, the Iowa Bar Association Citizenship Award (with accompanying scholarship), the Lohr Family scholarship, and scholarships from the Paton-Churdan Education Association, the Churdan American Legion auxiliary, American Legion Edward English Post and the Masonic lodge.
